TMJ Therapy

Hands on relief for jaw pain, clenching, and tension

What is TMJ?

Your temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are the two hinges that connect your jaw to your skull. You use them every time you talk, chew, or yawn. When the muscles around them get tight or overworked, you may notice jaw pain, clicking, clenching or grinding, headaches, ear discomfort, or tension in your neck and shoulders.

How manual therapy can help

Many jaw problems are driven by tight, irritated muscles. Hands-on therapy works directly on those muscles to ease tension, improve movement, and calm the area down. Many clients notice their jaw feels looser and their headaches ease.

My approach

I'm trained in Precision Neuromuscular Therapy, a focused method that looks for the specific muscles behind your symptoms rather than guessing.

  • We start with an assessment. I identify which muscles are most likely contributing to your pain.

  • We work the whole picture. Your jaw, neck, and shoulders are closely connected, so I include all three in your session.

  • Thorough, targeted work. I work the muscles on the outside of your jaw and, only with your consent, inside the mouth. I also may work the hyoid area- a small structure in the front of the neck that many jaw muscles attach to.

  • Slow and gentle. This is unhurried work at your pace. You're always in control, and we can adjust or stop at any time.

What to expect

Sessions take place in a quiet, relaxing setting. You'll stay comfortably clothed, although I may need access to your upper shoulders, and I'll explain each step before we begin. Because the work is slow and precise, many clients find it surprisingly calming.
